Intel & ADAYO Join Forces to Launch AIBOX: Delivering AI External Processing Powerhouse for Automotive and Industrial Scenarios

Intel announced the launch of its AIBOX solution based on the latest Intel® Core™ Ultra architecture, bringing PC-grade flagship computing power to diverse industrial environments including automotive, industrial automation, rail transit, and robotics. This innovative offering provides an efficient and flexible new pathway for industries across the board to integrate large AI models. Intel has partnered with ADAYO — a subsidiary of Foryou Corporation — to develop a platform-based solution, which has successfully secured design wins for core intelligent projects from leading domestic autonomous brand automakers, marking a significant leap from technical validation to commercial application.

The advent of AI has unlocked boundless possibilities for traditional industries like automotive, transforming once-singular tools into intelligent companions capable of seeing, hearing, and understanding. However, this evolution has triggered a sharp surge in demand for local computing power. Characterized by openness, flexibility, and scalability, the AIBOX delivers enhanced local AI processing capabilities as an "external computing power module" for the rapid commercial deployment of large models, effectively serving as an additional brain for devices.

Heterogeneous Synergy: Unleashing Robust AI Computing Power

The newly launched AIBOX, a collaborative effort between Intel and ADAYO, is powered by the Intel Core Ultra processor. Its core advantage stems from the Core platform’s distinctive heterogeneous design, which integrates three computing engines — CPU, GPU, and NPU — to dynamically allocate computing resources for different types of AI tasks.

For complex task processing, the balanced collaboration between CPU and GPU is essential to ensure efficient data supply and maximize the value of every computing resource. Specifically:

  • CPU handles computationally intensive tasks such as Android applications, natural language understanding, and task scheduling
  • NPU, as a dedicated AI inference engine, delivers stable and robust inference capabilities with low power consumption
  • GPU efficiently accelerates visual tasks including local large model inference and environmental perception, while also providing additional 3D rendering and gaming capabilities
  • Multi-type interactive tasks can be dynamically scheduled across the three engines, ensuring smooth and seamless operations without lag

Thanks to its powerful hardware computing capacity and in-depth optimization, the Core Ultra platform easily addresses more complex and demanding AI application scenarios, providing comprehensive support for edge intelligence:

  1. Supports various computer vision models and dense architectures operable at the edge, while being compatible with large language models (LLMs) featuring Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) structures
  2. Enables stable support for multimodal Vision-Language (VL) models with 7B/8B parameters, and through performance tuning, meets the stringent requirements for latency control and throughput efficiency in cockpit scenarios, ensuring smooth and reliable intelligent interactions

The Core Ultra platform pioneers native support for full-modal Omni models, breaking the limitations of single-modal interactions and enabling more human-centric, rich, and realistic edge AI interactions. Its high-concurrency agent task scheduling capabilities streamline the coordination of multi-scenario and multi-task parallel processing, allowing it to more effectively address diverse AI task requirements in complex scenarios and expand the boundaries of edge AI applications.

As a key vehicle for Intel’s foray into numerous industries, the Core Ultra platform delivers consistent performance across automotive cockpits, robotics, rail transit edge devices, and even harsh operating conditions such as high temperatures, vibrations, and electromagnetic interference, meeting customers’ comprehensive requirements for computing power, energy efficiency, and durability.

Open Ecosystem: Driving Industry Intelligent Upgrades

The advantages of the Intel & ADAYO AIBOX extend beyond its outstanding heterogeneous architecture to include robust software compatibility spanning Linux and Android, while inheriting the rich ecosystem of AI PCs. After installing the AIBOX:

  • It seamlessly integrates with the Android ecosystem, adapting to the usage requirements of automotive cockpits and smart terminals
  • It enables the rapid migration of a wealth of AI PC applications to in-vehicle or other scenarios
  • The solution natively supports mainstream Linux distributions, facilitating the rapid integration of the latest AI workloads on devices

For developers, Intel provides toolchains such as OpenVINO™, significantly reducing the development complexity of integrating AI capabilities into vehicles and industrial equipment, shortening product development cycles, and accelerating the market launch of feature-rich industrial AI applications.

To ensure users have immediate access to the latest AI applications, Intel deeply engages in the construction of China’s large model ecosystem, collaborating with multiple AI vendors to achieve Day 0 support for mainstream large models on the AIBOX, while conducting in-depth optimizations for multimodal scenarios including text, speech, and vision. Additionally, the AIBOX offers enterprise-level local deployment capabilities, addressing security concerns in industries such as industrial and transportation where data security is paramount.

This "hardware + software + tools" support equips the AIBOX with AI plug-in upgrade capabilities, serving as a flexible gateway for both new and existing devices to access AI experiences:

  • For legacy devices lacking intelligent systems at the time of manufacture, installing the AIBOX can breathe new life into them
  • For new devices, the AIBOX reserves ample computing power headroom, enabling automakers and robotics manufacturers to access superior AI services
